Without treatment, inflammation leads to scarring, cirrhosis, and liver failure over months to years. Early treatment may slow or arrest this progression.
What to feed a cat with cholangitis?
Feed a highly palatable, energy-dense diet in frequent small meals. Do not restrict protein unless your cat has hepatic encephalopathy. If pancreatitis is present, choose a highly digestible, moderately fat-restricted diet. If IBD coexists, consider novel or hydrolyzed protein sources. Supplement with vitamin B12 (cobalamin). Avoid raw meat diets, especially if your cat is on immunosuppressive therapy.
